Far from the frenzy of matches, training sessions and dressing rooms, or indeed from the delicate perfume of beer and frikandels, Stephan Vanfleteren presents a set of portraits of the 26 players in Belgium’s national football team. In this black and white series, with half-clad, athletic bodies arranged in heroic poses, the photographer celebrates the new gods of the stadium, but also, through the many skin tones of the team, the complex mixture that is modern Belgium.
